ELISA BELL, age 52, 0f Dunnellon, passed away Monday, February 20, 2012 in Ocala, Florida. 
 
Elisa was born in Honesdale, PA, and moved to Dunnellon in 2003 from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. 
 
She was a Human Resources Manager with K-Mart for 30 years.  She enjoyed life to the fullest, going to the beach, reading, and spending quality time with her family, especially her granddaughters Terra & Kathrin.
 
Survivors include her husband Troy, of Dunnellon, Florida; as well as two sons: Travis Bell of Dunnellon, and Jesse (Melissa) Clark, Ft. McCoy, Florida; her father Wallace Lee (Ann) Pelton, of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania; stepmother, Suzanne Pelton; a brother Wally Pelton of Ocala; sisters Leslie (Peter) Nichol, Boston, Mass; Dawn Pelton (Trip Flavin) Boston, Mass; granddaughters Terra Clark and Kathrin Clark of Ft. McCoy, Florida, plus friends and co-workers from K-Mart in Ocala and Ft. Lauderdale.
 
A Private Celebration of Elisa’s life will be scheduled at a later date and time.

E. Regina  Nordberg, 84, of Christ the King Manor, DuBois, formerly of Emporium, died at the Manor in DuBois on Sunday morning (February 26, 2012).
She was born October 13, 1927 in Emporium a daughter of the late Gerald and Elsie Skillman Horning

On December 27, 1948 in Emporium she married the late Herman Nordberg.
Mrs. Nordberg graduated from Emporium High School and Buffalo Childrens Hospital School of Nursing. She retired as a nursing supervisor from Guy and Mary Felt Manor where she worked for many years. She was a member of the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church in Emporium and most recently attended the DuBois Alliance Church. While in Emporium she was very active in her church teaching Sunday School & Vacation Bible School. She was a member of the Church Board, a Diaconate, and was involved with the Womens Missionary Fellowship. She taught 4H groups for many years and enjoyed cooking and baking for others.

Leslie J. Haas, 64, of 475 Lance Dr., Ridgway, died unexpectedly at Ridgway Township on Friday, February 24, 2012.
He was born September 12, 1947 in Allentown, PA a son of Marlowe Arner Haas of Emporium and the late James Haas.

On August 17, 1969 in Williamsburg, VA he married Janet Hutchens Haas, who survives.
Mr. Haas graduated from Council Rock High School in Newtown, PA in the class of 1965 and from Paul Smith College in 1968 with a degree in forestry. He served with the US Army from 1968 to 1971 as a military policeman. He worked for Lower Makefield Township as a policeman from 1972 to 1984. He then moved to Elk County in March 1984 to work as a Waterway Conservation Officer for the PA Fish and Boat Commission. He retired in 2004. He was a regular attendee of the CMA Church of Emporium. He was a endowment member of the NRA, a member of the Pa. Federation of Sportsman, Elk Co. Conservation District, Paul Smith's Alumni group, BASS, Buckmaster Whitetail Deer Hunting Association, National Trapper's Association, Christian Sportsman Fellowship

Louise Summerson Conway, 90, of Port Charlotte, Florida, passed away Friday, February 24, 2012 in Port Charlotte, Florida.

She was born August 15, 1921 in Emporium, a daughter of the late Clara Dodge and George Summerson.  Louise, a devoted wife and mother, moved with her husband Jack Conway from Fairfield, Connecticut to Port Charlotte in 1981.  She was a member of the Port Charlotte United Methodist Church.  She was also a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Emporium.

Louise is survived by her beloved children, sons Clay Conway of Port Charlotte and Brent (wife Hollye) Conway of Atlanta, and daughter April (husband Louis) Zitnay of Jacksonville, FL; two grandsons, Wes (wife Elyse) Zitnay of Los Angeles and Jared Zitnay of Minneapolis, and a sister, Shirley Minard of Seneca Falls, NY.  Louise was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Stephens, and by her beloved husband of 60 years, Jack, in 2007.

Visitation and service will be in Florida on Tuesday, February 28.  Local visitation will be held at the Barnett Funeral Home, Emporium  on Friday, March 2 from 11:00 -11:45 AM followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM with Rev. Gary Atkinson officiating. Burial will take place at Newton Cemetery.

Esther M. Hudson, 92, of West  Sixth Street, Emporium, PA, died Friday (February 24, 2012) in theElk Haven Nursing Home, St. Marys.

 Born August 26, 1919, in Emporium, she was the daughter of the lateOtto and Lucy Burfield Edelman.  On January 16, 1946, in Bradford, she married C. Wilson Hudson,who died September 8, 2010.

 A lifelong resident of Emporium, she attended Emporium public schoolsand Sisters of Charity Nursing School.  During WWII she worked at SylvaniaElectric, Inc. and later the Rydesky-Malizia Law Offices until her retirement.

 She is survived by: two sons, Craig W. (Carol) Hudson of Emporium, andJeffrey J. (Pam) Hudson of Okeechobee, FL; two grandchildren, Shawna (Troy Claar)Hudson of Bedford, PA, and Zack Hudson of Okeechobee, FL, and ten nieces and nephews.

 In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by asister, Lucille Smith and a brother, Mark (Bud) Edelman.

 Esther was an active member of St. Mark Catholic Church of Emporium,Emporium Country Club and was an avid bridge player.

 The family will receive friends Monday, February 27 from 4-7 p.m. inthe Coppersmith-Condon Funeral Home, Emporium and a Mass of Christian burialwill be celebrated Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mark Church, with Fr. Paul Siebert, pastor, as celebrant.  Priorto the viewing hours, a Wake Service will be held Monday at 3:45 p.m. Interment will be in St. Mark Cemetery,Emporium.

Horace C. “Bud” Pleak, age 90, of East Sixth Street,Emporium, died Saturday, February 18, 2012, in the Guy & Mary Felt Manor,Emporium.

Born September 14, 1921 in Villisca, Iowa,he was the son of the late Robert and Mary Chapman Pleak.  On June 28,1947 in Coudersport he married Mary Jane Holden who died June 6, 2011.

He attended Villisca public schools and Iowa StateUniversity.  In 1942 he started work at Hygrade Sylvania Corporation and was employed for 39 years as an engineer and manager with Sylvania and later GTE and Philips in Emporium.

Mr. Pleak is survived by: two sons, Robert G. (Joanne)Pleak of Salinas, CA, and Andrew Pleak of New York City; three daughters, MaryAnn Weber of Billings, MT, E. Jane Pleak-Alquist of Statesboro, GA, and GeorgeAnn Pleak of Emporium; three grandchildren, Jesse Weber of San Francisco, CA,Daniel Weber and Kathleen (Betsy) Weber of Santa Barbara, CA; and two sisters-in-law, Pauline Lewis and George Ann Holden at the Guy & Mary Felt Manor, and four nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Elizabeth Peterson and Eleanor Bradley.

Bud was an active member of the Community Players in the early 1940s, the Sylvania Rifle Club, Sylvania’sQuarter Century Club, the Toastmasters Club, the National Rifle Association,Emporium Men’s Club and was Committeeman for Troop 51, now 551, of theBoy Scouts of America.

In looking back at his life, Bud wrote to his children: “all in all, it’s been a great life, with a wonderful wife and perhaps we even proved that a heathen and an angel can live together along time!”

Funeral arrangements, under the direction of the Coppersmith-Condon Funeral Home, Emporium, were incomplete at the time of printing.

Interment will be in St. Mark Cemetery, Emporium.

Anthony Lyle Yaras, 87, of 415 Sizerville Rd., Emporium died at Elk Regional Health Center, St. Marys on Monday (February 13, 2012) night.
He was born January 8, 1925 in Cleveland, Ohio a son of the late Anthony John and Elsie Federer Yaras.

He married the late Irene Pekny Yaras.
Mr. Yaras graduated from Oliver High School. He served in WWII and received a Purple Heart. He and his wife had once owned and operated the Lake View Hotel in Sinnamahoning before working at Airco Carbon where he eventually retired from.

Harold G. Lingenfelter, 83, of 1981 Sizerville Rd.,  Emporium died unexpectedly at Elk Regional Health Center, St. Marys on Sunday  (February 12, 2012) afternoon.
He was born June 27, 1928 in Torrance, PA a son of the late Edward and Maude Logue Lingenfelter.

On November 13, 1948 in Marion Center, PA he married Elsie Fillhart  Lingenfelter, who survives.

Mr. Lingenfelter retired from Sylvania where he worked for over 35 years. He loved gardening and fishing & hunting especially in Sinnamahoning. He was  a member of the Bucktail Rod and Gun Club and enjoyed the Liars Club Coffee  Hour at the Buttonwood each morning.

Jay-Don Joseph Hall, 78, of 58 Diamond Lodge Way, Emporium, died Saturday evening, Feb. 11, 2012, at his residence.
 He was born Jan. 27, 1934, in Barnes, Warren County, son of the late Charles J. and Alice M. (MacMartin) Hall. He had resided in Emporium for the last few months but had been a former resident of Truman, Austin, Ridgway and Kersey.

 He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ridgway, the North American Hunting Club, the American Fishing Club, the NRA, and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a graduate of the Austin High School. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He had been employed by Elk County General Hospital for 20 years.

 He is survived by the following children: Denise R. Hall of Emporium, Michelle R. Barr and her husband Joseph of Emporium, Kevin J. Hall of Emporium, Candice J. Schwartz and her fiance Dale Ludwig of Emporium, and Tracy Ann Hall of Emporium; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, James J. Hall and his wife Jeanette of Ridgway, and Thomas Tyler and his wife Becky of Austin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
 Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Lloyd Tyler, and one sister, Levia Herzig.

A Memorial Service for Jay-Don Joseph Hall will be held at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, at 11 a.m., with military honors accorded by the Ridgway Servicemen's Burial Detail. Co-officiating will be the Rev. Erik Hart, pastor of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, and Pastor Randy Hall of the Edeburn United Methodist Church and the Donahey United Methodist Church. She was born January 30, 1925 in Emporium a daughter of the late Domenico and Rose Policastro Tartaglia.

On February 5, 1944 in St. James Catholic Church, Driftwood she married the late Donald D. Ives.

Mrs. Iives graduated from Emporium High School. She worked at Sylvania for many years and later at Motor Coil where she retired. Much of her life revolved around her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with all of them.

Rev. Dwight F. Simpson, 73, of Hagerstown, MD., formerly of  Emporium, PA., went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 7,  2012.

 Born on February 19, 1938 in Cumberland, MD, he was the son of the late  Lewis F. and Anna Virginia Lee (Feaster) Simpson.  He was a graduate of  Bedford Area High School in Bedford, PA.   He served the people of  Cameron County and he was the Pastor of Faith Baptist Church in Emporium and  Down County Baptist Church in Driftwood for 25 years.  Previously  he pastored in Bedford, PA.  Along with his loving wife, Anna  Marie, they served Churches in Pennsylvania for over 35 years.

 Dwight was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Marie (Tipton) of 54  years.  He is survived by his daughter Donna Rose and husband  Steven of Hagerstown, MD.  Sons, D. Randall Simpson and wife, Sheri of  Hollidaysburg, PA., Brian Simpson of St. Marys, PA., and Brent Simpson and  wife Idalee of Hummelstown, PA.  His grand-children, Daniel and Nathan  Rose of Hagerstown, MD, Brandon and Zachary Simpson of Hollidaysburg, PA, and  Emma Grace, Grayson and Abram Simpson of Hummelstown, PA.  He is also  survived by a foster brother, Claude Darr and wife Leslie of Reisterstown,  MD.

Garnet B Younkin, 85, Arbutus Park Manor, formerly of Emporium.  Born April 28, 1926, in Clairton, Pa. Daughter of the late William and Sarah (Penn) Betts.  Also preceded in death by son; Terry; and brothers, William and Christopher.

Survived by husband of 66 years, Paul B. Younkin and these children; Gary, married to Jene (Porsch), Hume, VA.; and Susan, wife of Raymond Porsch, Johnstown. Grandchildren; Kevin Porsch, Eric, married to Melissa Groszkiewicz, Brooke Porsch, Tylar Younkin and Tory Younkin.

Former office manager at Emporium Water Co. and secretary for Pa. Bureau of State Parks, Harrisburg, Pa.  Member of the Presbyterian Church in Emporium and Carlisle, Pa. She served as a Sunday school teacher in Emporium for many years.  A devoted wife, mother and grandmother who was out going and loved people, the outdoors, animals, hobbies and playing tennis. Paul and Garnet spent 27 winters at the World Tennis Center in Naples, FL.

Friends received 2-4:30 pm Sunday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Johnstown, Pa. 15904, where Funeral Service will be held at 10 am Monday Feb. 6, 2012.Rev. Alice Tondora, officiating.

Virginia Beach - Elizabeth "Betty" Bauer Larkin Farmer, 75, passed away in her home, surrounded by loved ones, on Mon., Jan. 30, 2012. Born in Driftwood, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Guy and Frances Bauer.

A long time resident of Cameron County, Pa., she also lived in Hawaii, Okinawa, Japan and Falls Church, Va. She retired to Va. Beach after working for over 20 years as a bank teller at what was originally Bucktail Bank & Trust. She will be remembered for her smile, her kindness, and the infectious laughter she brought into our lives.

Betty was predeceased in death by her parents, her son, Bob Larkin, and her brother, Guy Bauer.
She is survived by her son, Dan Larkin and wife, Alice, of Ridgway, Pa.; her daughter, Valerie Larkin Wilkinson and husband, Brian, of Va. Beach, Va.; seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to thank all of her doctors, nurses, and hospice caregivers for the love and support they provided.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Sat., March 10, at the 1st United Methodist Church, 306 South Spruce Street, Emporium, Pa. 15834.

 He was born February 1, 1939 in Austin, Pennsylvania a son of the late  LaVerne and Elva Fowler Wolfanger. He married Carolyn Kamats Wolfanger,  who survives. They recently celebrated their fifty-first wedding  anniversary. Years ago Dale served with the US Army.

  Visitation will be at the Barnett Funeral Home on  Wednesday from 4-7 PM where a wake service will be held at 6:45 PM.

Carol J. Smith, 69, of 307 Carson St., Emporium died at Elk Regional Health Center, St. Marys on Sunday (February 5, 2012) morning.
She was born August 31, 1942 in St. Marys a daughter of the late Paul and Viola Bennett Lewis. On September 7, 1963 in First United Methodist Church in Emporium she married Frederick Smith, who survives.

Mrs. Smith graduated from Emporium High School. She and Fred were married over 48 years. Years ago she worked at Sylvania in Emporium and had been a member of the Guy and Mary Felt Manor Auxiliary.

Funeral Service will be held at the Barnett Funeral Home, 207 E. Fourth Street, Emporium on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Mark Conklin, Pastor, Christian Missionary & Alliance Church, officiating.
Visitation will be at the Barnett Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4-7 PM.
Burial will be in the Rich Valley Cemetery, Emporium.
