Carl R. Bailey, 87, of 477 Old North Creek Rd., Emporium, PA died at Penn Highlands Elk, St. Marys, PA on Monday (May 5, 2014) afternoon.
He was born October 2, 1926 in Emporium, PA a son of the late Jacob and Grace Dougherty Bailey.

On July 21, 1950 in Emporium he married the late Audrey Housler Bailey.
Mr. Bailey served with the US Navy during WW II. He retired from Sylvania where he worked for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be held at the Barnett Funeral Home, 207 E. Fourth Street, Emporium, PA on Saturday (May 10, 2014) at 12:00 PM with Rev. James Eastman, Pastor, Deeper Waters Ministries, officiating. A Military Service will be accorded by the Cameron County
 
Memorial Detail.
Visitation will be at the Barnett Funeral Home on Saturday morning from 10:00 AM - 11:45 AM.
Burial will be in the Newton Cemetery, Emporium, PA

Gerald J. "Mickey" Murray, 81, of Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, Duncansville, PA formerly of Emporium and Florida died at Hollidaysburg Veterans Home on Saturday (May 3, 2014) afternoon following a lengthy illness.

He was born May 15, 1932 in Emporium, PA a son of the late Violet Bailey Minard.
 

Mr. Murray served with the US Navy during the Korean War He lived many years in Florida where he was a self employed businessman.

George L. Leavitt, 85, of 370 Markert Road, Beechwood, PA died at Penn Highlands Elk, St. Marys, PA on Thursday (May 1, 2014) surrounded by his loving family.

He was born February 24, 1929 in Truman, PA a son of the late Charles and Cecil "Dollie" Dill Leavitt.
On July 4, 1951 in Beechwood George married the late Joan Smith Leavitt his wife, of 55 years. After she passed in 2006 he married Larue Jeannine Clark Leavitt, of Austin, in 2009. George graduated from the former Emporium High School. He served with US Army during the Korean War. George retired from Sylvania where he worked for over 35 years. He was also employed at Pennsylvania Pressed Metals for several years. He was a member of the George E. Wagner Lodge #639, F. and A. M. St. Marys, PA

A memorial service for Gwendolyn (Werts) Lewis of Royersford, formerly of King of Prussia and Arcola, will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church in Emporium with the Rev. Joseph Short, pastor, officiating.

 Gwen, age 82, passed away Dec. 24, 2013 in Phoenixville. She is survived locally by her brother Dale (Janice) Werts of Emporium and several nieces; and by three sons, David, John and Stephen and their spouses, all of Collegeville; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

 

 Services in Trappe, Pa. and a private interment were held at the time of her passing.

Esther J. Bates, 97, of Guy & Mary Felt Manor, Emporium, PA formerly of Emporium died at Guy & Mary Felt Manor, Emporium on Wednesday (April 16, 2014) afternoon.
She was born September 11, 1916 in Sterling Run, PA a daughter of the late James and

Nora Jones Berry.
She married the late Chalmers Bates.
Mrs. Bates worked cleaning homes throughout the area for many people. Esther enjoyed her grandchildren and taking long walks even into her later years.

Joan A. Pepper, 86, of 85 Thornapple Dr., Emporium, PA died at Masonic Village, Elizabethtown, PA on Thursday (April 10, 2014) Night.
She was born April 24, 1927 in Hawley, PA a daughter of the late John and Mary Barrett Morgan.

In Honesdale, PA she married the late Edson N. "Pete" Pepper.
Mrs. Pepper graduated from Hawley High School in Hawley PA. She and her husband resided in Emporium for over 47 years. She had worked at Sylvania and later at Pennsylvania Pressed Metals for over 20 years. She was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church.

Visitation will be at the Barnett Funeral Home on Wednesday from 10:00 to 10:45 AM.
Burial will be in the St. Mark Catholic Cemetery, Emporium, PA

Elaine M. Davis, age 86, of East Fourth Street, formerly of the Emporium Arms, died Tuesday, April 8, 2014, in Guy and Mary Felt Manor, Emporium.

Born July 8, 1927 in Emporium, she was the daughter of Harold and Ruby Hickok Smith.  On September 18, 1948 in Emporium she married Kenneth L. Davis who died June 4, 1988.

A resident of Emporium her entire life, she was a 1948 graduate of Emporium High School.  From 1951-52 she was employed by GTE Sylvania and from 1970-73 by Holloway’s Tool & Die both in Emporium.  She was basically a homemaker but for many years she also performed housecleaning services for several regular clients.

Mrs. Davis was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Emporium and was very involved with the Democratic Women in Emporium.

Survivors include: a son, Kent W. (Wendy) Davis of Emporium; a daughter, Wendy (Bernard) Armstrong of Emporium; Nila DeFrancesco of Altoona; five grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her father and a brother Denmar Smith, age 5, who both perished in a fire in 1934 and by her mother Ruby Smith Achins in 1991.

There will be no visitation. Funeral Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Burial will be in Newton Cemetery, Emporium.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Cameron County Historical Society or a charity of the donor’s choice.

 

Arrangements are under the direction of the Coppersmith-Condon Funeral Home Emporium.

Ronald L. Tompkins, 78, of 405 Spring Street, Emporium, PA died at UPMC-Hamot Medical Center, Erie, PA on Thursday (April 3, 2014) morning.
He was born November 25, 1935 in St. Marys, PA a son of the late Harvey and Margaret Bickmire Tompkins.

Mr. Tompkins graduated from Emporium High School and then from Williamsport Technical Institute with a degree in Electronics. Ron served with the US Air Force during the Korean War. Ron retired from Mountain View Bowling Alley where he worked for many years. He enjoyed gardening and working in his shop.

A Military Service will be accorded by the Cameron County Memorial Detail following the memorial service.
Burial will be in the Newton Cemetery, Emporium, PA
