Genemare Bateman Mitchell, 97, formerly East Fifth Street, died Tuesday, November 28, 2017, in the Guy & Mary Felt Manor, Emporium.


Born February 7, 1920 in Salamanca, NY, she was the daughter of the late Monroe and Grace Summerson Bateman.  A lifelong resident of Emporium she was a 1938 graduate of Emporium High School.

On February 19, 1940 in Youngsville she married Harry A. “Ham” Mitchell who died June 21, 1994 in Coudersport.

Mrs. Mitchell was a lifelong member and a choir member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church of Emporium, a member of the Wednesday Bridge Club for many years, the Birthday Club for over 30 years, and was a former member of Emporium Country Club and the Ladies Auxiliary of Emporium Country Club and its Thursday Bridge Club.  Besides playing bridge, Genemare also enjoyed walking, hiking, and family parties and picnics.


Survivors include: three daughters, Sally (David) Guloien, Mary (Richard) Olivett, and Molly (Larry) Topolski all of Emporium; one son, James (Jo Ann) Mitchell of Hammondsport, NY; eight grandchildren, Heather Mitchell (Daniel Walsh), Jeanmare (Thomas) Holjencin, Eirik Guloien, Michelene Olivett, Richard Olivett, Kevin Topolski, Keith Topolski, and Lauren (Kevin) Dougherty; nine great grandchildren; and also nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by two sisters, Annabelle Thornton and June Leonard, a brother, Frank Bateman, and a grandson, David Guloien, Jr.


A Mass of Christian Burial with committal service will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2017 in Emmanuel Episcopal Church with Fr. Matthew Ryan, pastor, officiating.


Burial will be in Newton Cemetery, Emporium.


Memorials, if desired, may be made to Emmanuel Episcopal Church or Guy and Mary Felt Manor, both in Emporium.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Coppersmith-Condon Funeral Home, Emporium.



Joseph C. Hagen, 76, of 69 Huckleberry Circle, Emporium, PA died at Pinecrest Manor, St. Marys, PA on Thursday morning. (November 23, 2017) He was born April 15, 1941 in Renovo, PA a son of the late Francis and Margaret Casey Hagen. In St. Joseph Church, Renovo he married Elizabeth Bruno Hagen, who survives Joe graduated from Renovo High School and served in the US Army. He worked for the Cameron County School District for many years. He was a member of the St. Mark Catholic Church, Emporium and the Knights of Columbus where he was a 4th degree knight. He was also a member of the Emporium Volunteer Fire Department.


In addition to his wife he is survived by one niece; two nephews and two great nieces and a sister-in-law, Pat Hagen, Avis, PA; He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Francis Hagen.


There will be No Visitation. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be Celebrated at St. Mark Catholic Church, 235 East Fourth Street, Emporium, PA on Saturday (December 9, 2017) at 10:00 AM with Rev. Paul S. Siebert, Pastor, as Celebrant.

 Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery, Hyner, PA

Earl L. Dill, 88, of 345 East Third St., Emporium, PA died at Penn Highlands Elk, St. Marys, PA on Friday (November 24, 2017) morning. He was born March 22, 1929 in Sterling Run, PA a son of the late George L. and Alice Strawbridge Dill. Earl graduated from Emporium High School in the class of 1946. He worked in the pipeline business making roads for gas wells. He served, as a sergeant with the US Army and after his time in the service he worked as a construction superintendent in many parts of the country. Earl retired in 1978 and returned to Cameron County. He was a member of the Sinnemahoning United Methodist Church.


 Earl is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Robert, George, Bertram Dill and Paul in infancy; three sisters, Florence Smith, Rita Wheeler and Norma Hickoff.


A funeral service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 306 S Spruce St, Emporium, PA on Monday (November 27, 2017) at 11:00 AM with Pastor Ken Bailey of the Sinnemahoning First United Methodist Church and Pastor Joseph Short of the First United Methodist Church, Emporium officiating. A Military Service provided by the Cameron County Memorial Detail will follow. Visitation will be at the Church one hour prior to the Service.


Burial will be in the Newton Cemetery, Emporium, PA In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cameron County Memorial Detail, c/o VFW, 427 E. 3rd St., Emporium, PA 15834

Robert E. Moore, Sr., 72, of 1835 Clear Creek Rd., Emporium, PA died peacefully at Penn Highlands DuBois, DuBois, PA on Saturday morning with his family at his side.(November 18, 2017)


 He was born July 30, 1945 in Emporium, PA to the late Dorman M. and Margaret K. Swoyer Moore, Sr. He married Cynthia Miglicio Moore, who survives. Robert was a retired truck driver working for several local companies in Cameron County. He later worked at Mallory Lumber as a night watchman. HIs greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren. He was the family photographer, and was always seen with a camera always hanging around his neck. His favorite hobby was woodworking and he was known as everybody’s “Mr. fix it”


 In addition to his wife Cynthia he is survived by three daughters, Robin (John Uber) Moore, Emporium; Gina (Tracy) Roberts, Staunton, Virginia and Tracy (Mark Rogers) Erickson, Emporium; three sons, Scott (Lisa) Moore, York, PA; Robert (Jen) Moore, Emporium; Ron (Karen) Long, Douglasville, PA; fourteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren, brother, Dorman "Rip" (Mary Grasser) Moore, Jr., Emporium and a sister Grace (Ed) LaBrozzi, Emporium; Sister-in-law Joanne Moore, Emporium, PA 


He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Cyril "Sonny" Moore.


 A Memorial Service will be held at the Barnett Funeral Home, 207 E. Fourth Street, Emporium, PA on Saturday (November 25, 2017) at 1:00 PM with Roberts nephew Mr. DeWayne Moore, officiating. 


Visitation will be at the Barnett Funeral Home one hour prior to the service.


 A Military Service will be accorded by the Cameron County Memorial Detail.

Robert J. Brown, 89, of 28 Red Pine Drive, died at his residence on Wednesday morning (Nov. 15, 2017).
He was born Oct. 6, 1928, in Olean, New York, a son of the late Floyd and Gertrude Grambow Brown. On May 9, 1964, in St. Mark Catholic Church he married the late Barbara Moscato Brown.
Mr. Brown dropped out of school at the age of 16 and joined the Merchant Marines, where he served for two years. He then went back to school and graduated at the age of 20. He was drafted into the Army in 1950 and served in Germany during the Korean War.
Under the GI Bill, Mr. Brown attended several universities across the country studying economics. He then moved to Arizona, where he worked for a major grocery store chain, establishing grocery stores across that state. He moved back to Emporium and married in 1964, then started the Cameron County Echo.
Over the years, he owned and operated several businesses, including the Taste-T-Freeze, Cameron County Echo, Mid Towne Market Grocery Store, Buttonwood Inn Restaurant, PSM BrownCo, and Emporium Self Storage.
He was a strong supporter of many local organizations, including being a major donor to the
Cameron County Library, which was named after his late wife, Barbara Moscato Brown.

Bob is survived by two daughters, Nancy (Pete) Fragale and Julie Brown; two sons, David Brown and Steven (Staci) Brown, all of Emporium; eight grandchildren, Vincent Brown, Kacie Brown, Bobbi Fragale, Sophia Fragale, Marcus Brown, Dino Brown, Hayden Brown and Jax Brown; one great granddaughter, Ava Anne Brown; two brothers, David (Elaine) Brown of Webster, NY, and Larry (Roberta) Brown of Cuyahoga Falls, OH; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Gertrude Brown; wife, Barbara Moscato Brown, who died March 30, 1996; and a sister, Betty Hollingsworth.

At his request, there will be no service or visitation.
Burial will be in the St. Mark Catholic Cemetery.

EMPORIUM---John C. Major, 45, a lifelong resident of Emporium, passed away with his loving family by his side on Friday, November 17, 2017, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a lengthy illness.

Born on August 26, 1972 in Coudersport, he was a son of James L. and Sandy M. Nelson Major.  On May 15, 2010 on “Top of the World” in Driftwood, he married Juneann C. Butson, who survives.

John was a graduate of Cameron County High School in Emporium.  He was employed as a machinist at the former Graftech of Emporium until retiring due to ill health.

John was very active in Boy Scouting.  He attained the rank of Eagle Scout and was a proud member of the Order of the Arrow.  He continued his love for scouting in his adult years as a scout leader and a volunteer at Camp Elk Lick.  He was an avid hunter, hiker, and fisherman, having enjoyed tying his own flies.  He enjoyed everything about the outdoors.  He was an EMT serving with Cameron County Ambulance and was a volunteer with Mountaineer Search and Rescue in Emporium. John loved metal detecting, a hobby which helped him fight his battle with cancer, but his greatest love was his family.

Surviving besides his wife of Emporium, are his parents of Kersey; four children, Jaecey M. Major, Crissy J. Major, Lilli C. Major, and Brice L. Major, all of Emporium; a sister, Heather L. (Brenda) Major of Roseto; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

John was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, John and Arlene Nelson; and his paternal grandparents, LaVerne and Ruth Major.

A celebration of John’s life will be held at 11am on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, 1284 Sizerville Road, Emporium, with the Rev. Lionel Owen, pastor, officiating.

Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials in John’s name may be made to Warren Semmel, Calumet Chairman, Boy Scouts of America, 307 South Mechanic Street, Smethport, PA 16749.

Matthew “Andy” Rodich, 61, of Woodland Avenue, Emporium died Monday, November 13, 2017, in his home.

Born July 3, 1956 in St. Marys, he was the son of Matthew A. and Helen Schultz Rodich.

A lifelong resident of Emporium, he was a 1974 graduate of Cameron County High School. 

He was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church in Emporium and was employed by GKN in

Emporium, formerly Pennsylvania Pressed Metals, for 40 years.


Survivors include: a brother, Michael A. (Michele) Rodich of Emporium; a sister, Margaret (Steve) Gantt of Lexington, SC; a nephew, Matthew Rodich of Emporium; and nieces, Mallory (Lewis) Young of Masontown, West Virginia, and Christina Gantt of Lexington, SC.


The family will receive friends in the Coppersmith-Condon Funeral Home, Emporium on Saturday, December 23rd, 2017 from 11 a.m. until Noon at which time Funeral Services will follow with Fr. Paul Siebert, pastor of St. Mark Church, officiating.


Burial will be in St. Mark Cemetery, Emporium.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.




Myrl C. Reed, 93, of Rich Valley Road, Emporium, died Tuesday, November 14, 2017, in her home. 

Born May 30, 1924 in Eldred she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Lillian Brown Carpenter.  On January 10, 1947 in Rew, Pa. she married Howard Reed who died in 2005. 

Myrl graduated from Eldred High School and from business school in Coraopolis, PA.  A resident of Emporium since 1948, she was employed for eight years by Sylvania Electric in Emporium and for several years by Emporium Hardware.  At the time of her retirement in 1987 she was employed as a secretary by DCNR in Emporium. 

Mrs. Reed was a longtime member of the Rich Valley Wesleyan Church in Emporium and was a Past Matron of the Emporium Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. 

Survivors include: three sons, Herbert Reed (Debbie) of Clarksville, Tennessee, Howard Reed (Linda) of Richland, Washington State, and Gerald Reed (Tina) of Emporium; one sister, Sara Richardson of Holly, NY; ten grandchildren; several great grandchildren, and also nieces and nephews. 

Visitations will be held in the Coppersmith-Condon Funeral Home on Friday, November 17, 2017 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at which time Funeral & Committal Services will follow with Rev. Christine Groeger officiating. 

Burial will be in Moore Hill Cemetery, Emporium.

John "Jammy" Micklich, 84, of 619 Rich Valley Rd., Emporium, PA died in Emporium, PA Friday afternoon (November 10, 2017). He was born August 1, 1933 in Emporium, PA a son of the late Albert and Marie Malizia Micklich Cygan. On April 8, 2000 in Emporium, PA he married Marian VanHorn Gearhart Micklich, who survives.


 Jammy graduated from Emporium High School in the class of 1951. He served with the US Army’s 708 Ordinance Division from 1956-1957. Jammy worked for over 38 years at Sylvania and retired from Keystone Automatic where he worked for several years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Bucktail Rod & Gun Club. For several years, Jammy taught hunter safety courses in Emporium. 


He is survived by his wife Marian Micklich; daughter, Michele (Mike) Reed, Emporium; two sons, Albie (Gregory Leet) Micklich, DMA, Phoenix, AZ; Ryan (Randi) Micklich, Eldred, PA; step-son, Scott (Mary Ellen) Gearhart, Eldersburg, MD; step-daughter, Kim (Mike) Burlingame, Dayton, OH; step-son, Chris (Jeanne) Gearhart, South Windsor, CT; twelve grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.


 He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Albert and Marie Malizia Micklich Cygan and his step father, John Cygan. 


Funeral Service will be held at the Barnett Funeral Home, 207 E. Fourth Street, Emporium, PA on Tuesday (November 14, 2017) at 11:00 AM with Rev. Joseph Short, Pastor, First United Methodist Church, officiating.


 A Military Service will be accorded by the Cameron County Memorial Detail. 


Visitation with Video Tribute will be at the Barnett Funeral Home on Monday from 3-6 PM. Burial will be in the St. Mark Catholic Cemetery, Emporium, PA.
